Well known for its congested roads and highways, the state of Texas is no stranger to traffic accidents. People using the road every day find it hard to imagine that they might be involved in a serious car accident that might have lasting consequences. But unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for people to get involved in car wrecks on Texas roads.

No matter how good of a driver you are, one can never account for the conditions of the roads and the choices made by other drivers. Additionally, with the rise of distracted drivers, you can never really trust the drivers around you on the road. According to Dallas car accident attorney Aaron Herbert, multitasking while driving will actually decrease your efficiency, hindering you rather than helping.

In the last 10 years, there has been a 32% increase in car accidents on San Antonio roads. Sadly, 21% of these accidents turn fatal. In order to understand the reasons behind these tragic incidents, we must look into the most dangerous roads in San Antonio for clues.

Most Dangerous Roads For Motorists in San Antonio, Texas

Loop 1604

The infamous loop 1604 encircles San Antonio and is one of the most dangerous roads in the city. Spanning approximately 95.6 miles, the four-way highway boasts an incredible amount of traffic on a daily basis. Drivers traveling through the county use this road to bypass slower traffic on city roads. Sadly, this has also led to a large number of serious car accidents.

It’s almost every other week that you hear about a new fatal crash on loop 1604. Whether it was speeding, driving while intoxicated, or any other type of negligence, these accidents cause great damage to the community.

Loop 410

Also referred to as Interstate 410, this highway too is one of the most dangerous in San Antonio. Thousands of people use this road on a daily basis to get to school or work, and others use it to bypass the busy downtown San Antonio. Unfortunately, many serious car accidents happen here that could’ve been avoided. The top causes of serious car accidents on loop 410 include speeding, driving while intoxicated, and large big rig trucks failing to clear their blind zone.

Interstate 10

Hosting thousands of motor vehicles every single day, Interstate 10 is often considered one of the most dangerous roads in San Antonio. A large number of motor vehicle accidents take place on this road on a weekly basis.

Being a famous roadway with many attractions and businesses around, drivers on Interstate 10 are often distracted as they look for their destination or an exit ramp from the highway. The most dangerous parts of the highway are where it intersects with other highly trafficked roads, including interstate 35 and loop 1604.

Why Do Most Accidents Happen at Intersections?

Intersections are designed to allow a multitude of vehicles traveling in different directions to get to their destinations. Naturally, with this large number of people using the same general area at the same time in different directions, accidents are bound to happen. Not to mention the complexity added by numerous motorists who don’t obey the law traveling above the speed limit and disregarding traffic lights and stop signs. According to the NHTSA, 96 percent of accidents that take place in an intersection are caused by driver error. This creates a truly complex traffic situation.

Types of Crashes at San Antonio Intersections

T-bone car accidents

Also known as angle-impact car accidents, these are the most frequent and most dangerous type of intersection car crashes, counting for almost half of fatal intersection accidents.

T-bone car accidents often take place when a motorist runs a traffic light and crashes into the side of another motor vehicle.

Head-on car accidents

Considered one of the most fatal types of car accidents, head-on collisions are self explanatory and usually occur when a motorist swerves into oncoming traffic on an opposing lane.

Rear-end crashes

Often happening because of driver error, read-end car accidents can also be fatal in some situations. This type of accident usually happens because of a driver making a right-hand turn and not adequately clearing the path in front of them causing them to crash.
